Holy Crap!

So I realize that it has infact been awhile since I last posted but I can tell you that there is a very good reason for it. Thursday was just a day that I didnt feel like postin anything, but on friday I had to work until 4 but the catch was I had to be at the library at my school to finish a test by 5, needless to say I was in a huge hurry. So when I got there, there was two choices, either park in my parking lot that is forever away and miss the test and get a zero for it, or park in reserved parking and risk getting a ticket. Obviously I chose the latter. So I finish my test I come out side to be greeted with a ticket, I look at the time on my phone and it read 4:46, the time on the ticket read 4:41. I was pissed, majorly. That ticket also foiled my plans to go to the Mychildern Mybride concert that night because now I gotta pay off that ticket. But anyway saturdays I work from 10pm until 4:30am on sunday, freakin graveyard shift. Then sunday and monday were spent writing a 1200 word essay for my english class. So today I am writing a blog. This isnt it tho cause I gotta go to work, but Ill be writing one after work.

Oh Snap! A Beartrap!

I'm this band here in lubbock and we've only been together for bout a couple weeks (we are still missing a bassist). Me and our other guitarist have very different writing styles, but the thing is that it works really well. He'll write some crazy riff and I'll lay down some groovin rhythym behind it and it just seems to work. I'm so psyched for this you know? So last night we were tryin to figure out some names for our band and we came up with a few possibilities:

Oh Snap! A Beartrap!
And They Call It Treason(or just call it treason)
The Shindig(or Addicted to the Shindig)
Wham Bam, Thank You Ma'am
Andrea Andretta

...amongst others but those were a few that stood out to me. If you have any suggestions you should def let me know. Just for your sake, we are a hardcore/punk band with some electronic influences similar to that of Oceana/A Day to Remember/and Sky Eats Airplane.

also check out this band, artist or whatever you wanna call it. The guitarist of the band Means has a new project entitled The Emerson Letters. It is just him and his acoustic guitar, but it is sooooo good. I posted a video of his single Everest(See This Through). Ch-Ch-Check it.

so that is it for now I'll be back tho so don't be sad

Make Money Money, Make Money Monaaay

So awhile back August Burns Red announced that they are releasing an ep with songs that didn't quite make the cut on Messengers. What I don't get is that if these songs weren't good enough to make the album, the why would people buy this ep? But what the really sad thing is, that people are actually gonna buy the crap out of it because people buy name brands. Even if you don't want to admit it bands are a brand, when you buy an Underoath record you are buying into the Underoath brand. People aren't gonna buy the Lost Messengers ep because they love these particular songs but because they love the brand that is August Burns Red. I'm not saying the ep won't have good songs on it, because it very well may, I just think that if it wasn't good enough to make the real record maybe its not good enough to be on the market. Just a little food for thought, here is some more:

1. Once Nothing-First Came the Law

I am so freakin bummed that Once Nothing broke up, it was just announced a couple of weeks ago so you might not of heard but boy am I upset. This record is one of the best of 2008, it may have its duds but songs like Whiskey Breath and Columbus Wasn't Looking for America make up for them. As a little consolation, Geoff, ON's guitarist, is the new lead vocalist for the Ferret Records band Gwen Stacy.

2. Means-More Than Watchmen for the Morning ep

So I guess this blog is going to focus on ands that no longer exist, and Means is included in that. Means Broke up last year, just after they released their second full length album. However, I want to talk about their 2005 debut ep. This ep has the entire package for post-hardcore stardom. This ep has more hits than their two full lengths combined. Ill give you that Connected off of Sending You Strength is their best song, but More Than Watchmen is by far their best cd regardless of its short track list.

That's all for now

I want a tattoo, should I get one?

Peace

So this is my first post on this blog so I will probably have about 0-1 readers haha, but that is ok with me. This blog is just basically allowing me to vent/talk about my love of music. So I guess I shall let everyone know a bit about me. I'm a freshman at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. I was born in Dallas but split time growing up in Kaufman and Coppell, Texas respectively. I play guitar in a hardcore-punk band who is currently nameless. My guitar is a Epiphone Les Paul, and I play into a Marshall MG100HDFX half stack. I have a girlfriend who I love very much but I hardly get to see her because she lives about 5 hours away, bummer I know. So basically that's my life, I love music though, and that is what this blog is going to cover. Each post I'd like to give a couple of suggested bands and one of their albums to check out, so here are today's:

1. A Day to Remember-Homesick
This is ADTR's third release, second on Victory Records, and it does not disappoint. Voted the most anticipated album of 2009 by Alternative Press Magazine, this album is a great mixture of punk and hardcore BROOTALITY! I first started listening to ADTR not too long ago but that does not take away from any of the excitement I have, when I see them March 14th at the Plano Centre in, duh, Plano.

2. Oh, Sleeper-When I am God
Oh, Sleeper's debut album does not sound like a debut at all. Each song is intricately put together and they each sound as if it was written by god himself. The Ft. Worth based quintet has alot of experience making music however. Three members from the defunct Tooth and Nail band, Terminal, have gone on to be in Oh, Sleeper as well as the guitarist from Between the Buried and Me. Also look out for Oh, Sleeper's Sophomore release coming out in 2009.

3. The Devil Wears Prada-Plagues
Tdwp Released their second album in 2007 and it still has not left my car's CD rotation. Every track is phenomenal!!! I have listened to this record countless times and will continue to listen to it for it is an instantaneous classic. If you have not bought it yet, please don't waste anymore time. Their third album, With Roots Above and Branches Below is coming out April of 2009, so do not forget to pick that one up too.

Here is a list bands Coming out with new cds this year:
The Almost
As Cities Burn
August Burns Red
Belle Epoque
Burden of a Day
Catherine
The Chariot
The Devil Wears Prada
Memphis May Fire
Oceana
and Oh, Sleeper

I'm sure there are many others but these are all those that I can think of for now but if there are some you can think of you can post it below or send me a message.

I think that just about wraps up my first blog so ill check ya laterz
